WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE NEWS?

Effective July 24, 2007, the federal minimum wage increased from $5.15 per hour to $5.85 per hour. Every employer subject to the Fair Labor Standard Acts minimum wage provision must post, and keep posted, a notice explaining the “ACT” in a conspicuous place in all their establishments. Copies of the poster may be downloaded directly from the DOL (Department of Labor) website at www.dol.gov.
Remember, July 24, 2007 is just the first date of three incremental increases in the Federal Wage Standard. The incremental increases will take place in the following manner:

-First Increase: $5.85 per hour effective July 24, 2007
-Second Increase: $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008 (one year after the first increase)
-Third Increase: $7.25 per hour effective July 29, 2009 (two years after the first increase)

September 7, 2007 is National 401(k) Day. This day provides employers opportunities to bring more awareness and education to their employees regarding 401(k) and other employer sponsored retirement plans.
